Ana Sicat is an artist based in New York. She began her artistic journey in 2008 by the waters of Montauk, Long Island, during her beloved summer sojourns. The untamed ocean and nature’s  imperceptible energy is a prominent influence in much of her work. The abstract and raw resonance of her expressions emulate her humble and intuitive approach to volume, movement, and texture. Her sound journals consistently play an integral role in her creative process, providing the foundational blueprint for her introspective artworks.

THROUGH

Through reflects Sicat’s current state, capturing moments of change and the fluid nature of transition. Crafted using mixed media—primarily plaster cloth, aluminum wire, and acrylic—the works emerge through an intuitive approach. The process involves tearing, bending, and shaping the aluminum wire, which forms the foundation of each piece. Layers of plaster cloth are added to create texture and depth, allowing the materials to evolve naturally.

Rendered in a monochromatic white palette, the sculptures embody openness and clarity, emphasizing the interplay of light and shadow. Exposed sections of wire reveal inner layers, highlighting the contrast between raw energy and structure, while embracing imperfection and vulnerability. The fluidity of the sculptures—like the movement of water—reflects a continuous shift, with textures and forms that change with perspective. The works can be experienced from different orientations, offering varied interpretations.
